NCOs up to and including the rank of Flight Sergeant are promoted by the Squadron Commander - these promotions are usually based upon an individuals potential and capability to fill a certain role. Some cadets can reach the dizzy heights of Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) - this is the highest rank obtainable as a cadet within the ATC. Unlike all other promotions, promotion to CWO is made by the Wing Commander and is usualy the outcome of a formal interview. CWOs and all other NCOs are usually well equipped with both experience and knowledge and help to allow a Squadron to function properly - inevitably meaning they are vital assets.
